Would You Like to be a Foster Parent?
Call the Adoption Center for details! Or simply fill out our online Volunteer Application, and write 'Foster Parenting' in the box. Foster parenting not only frees space for additional animals to come into the shelter, but it also helps your canine or feline friend adjust so much better to a new home, and teaches them good social patterns. It is invaluable!
Did you know you could have your birthday party at the Adoption Center and play with the kittens and puppies? It's quite a fun time, and the pets love the attention! Look at Destiny Liddell (2nd from left) with her friends as she celebrated her 8th birthday. Parents and children had a Pawfectly wonderful time!

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED
Volunteers to help with a monthly Grooming Day at the Adoption Center!
We are looking for volunteers to help with bathing, grooming, and trimming dogs (& cats, as needed) at our Adoption Center. Personal or professional experience preferred. (If you have bathed your own dog or trimmed his nails, that qualifies!) Please contact our Adoption Center if you can help!

Upscale Clothing Sale
Many thanks to all the Volunteers that helped us with our Upscale Clothing Sale! It was a great success, as we earned over $2100 for the Adoption Center! Also, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church was so gracious to host the venue for us, and it was perfect. We can't do it without you - thanks for all your help!!

Shown here helping with our clothing sale are: Pat Edwards, Marg Morrow, Pegi Compton, Larry Compton, Adam Morrow, Megan Girard & John Shaw

Need Help With Adoption Booths Offsite
PetSmart in Gainesville,
The Local Pet Shop in Cleveland, & Pets Gone Wild in Cornelia have all graciously offered to let us have Adoption Booths onsite, so if you can help on a Saturday or Sunday, please let us know! We'll be setting up some days as soon as we can get volunteers, and this helps our pets be seen by many more people! Other humane societies that have had booths at PetSmart have had greatly successful adoption days, so help us find Forever Homes for our shelter pets!
We do many other offsite adoptions, so contact the Humane Society, or fill out a volunteer form online.
Thank you for caring about us!

Speaking of Teens...
We love having your help at the Humane Society! Please consider giving some of your time to the animals! Stop by and fill out an application at the Adoption Center during Visiting Hours.

What’s Been Happening...
Our Adoption Center is staying at capacity right now, so that means volunteers are needed daily to walk the dogs, and groom all the animals. If you are experienced in dog grooming and can come for a few hours, let us know and we'll get volunteers to assist... It's always needed!
Sometimes, there are a few of our animals that are very shy, and what they need most is just social time with people. Sitting quietly with them to boost their confidence is very helpful. Teaching them to sit or other basic obedience tasks will make them all the more adoptable, so just stop by and ask what you can do! Our staff is wonderful with our Adoption Center pets, but don't have all the time they would like to devote to each dog & cat in the shelter. Just giving pure love is a great benefit to all the animals, and sitting with them so they can build trust is something that just takes patience. The reward you get when you earn their trust is like nothing else!

Fostering is a continuing need, and foster parents for dogs and cats are needed. Fostering not only frees up space in the Adoption Center for other pets to be sheltered, but it also gives animals a great way to learn home environments, and begin to be socialized for a new home. Teaching animals basic commands, and working with them so the learn what is right & wrong behavior, just makes them all the more adoptable. Please contact the Humane Society if you are interested - it is a wonderful thing to do for the pets, and we're betting you'll get just as much out of it! All our animals, including foster pets, are posted on Petfinder for people to see. And we are working on a foster board in our Humane Society, for people to see pictures & descriptions of those pets when they come into the Adoption Center, too. Oh, that's another thing - anyone who is interested in helping with our info boards in the Adoption Center, please let us know... we'd love the help!
White Co.4Hers keeping cool in the Helen fountain on some hot summer days!
Want an excuse to play in the water? Well, that's what White County 4-H Students are doing in the Helen Fountain! The City of Helen has graciously donated the proceeds of all coins thrown in the downtown fountain to our Humane Society! (Thanks, Alpine Helen!) It's a wonderful thing, but someone has to 'fetch' all those coins... So Lyn Forrest and the 4H students have graciously offered to come twice a month to collect the coins from the fountain. It's not so easy -- we've found that coins collect algae, and can get pretty slippery! The students don't seem to mind, and we appreciate all their help! By the way, we need Volunteers to help clean, sort & dry those coins so that we can take it to the bank for dollars... Anyone willing to help - just call the Humane Society! And THANKS, White County 4H!

Would you like to have your church or organization help the animals of our Humane Society? You can give money, supplies or volunteer services! Your church might be featured for our next Animal Friends of the Month! Churches that have helped are: Nacoochee Presbyterian Youth in Sautee, who sold dog biscuits and toys to raise $500 for our Humane Society! Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Sautee, who has been a Humane Society donor and member for years, and has donated to be both an Angel AND Archangel - thank you! Cleveland UMC’s Youth Group gave a donation to the Adoption Center, & Harvest Christian Church of Clarkesville donated all their remaining yard sale goods to us for our yard sales, 2 years in a row – and they had a lot of great stuff – thank you! Also, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church invited us to have an Adoption Booth at their festival last fall, & again this year in October, plus they sponsored our Upscale Clothing Sale this year - thank you!

Just call if you need more information or ideas... All the animals say: THANKS!
